The Governor General’s History Awards are Canada’s top honours in the field of history and heritage. They celebrate the very best in Canadian achievements to ensure our national past has a vibrant presence in our society today.

Upcoming Award Deadlines
March 9, 2012

Part multiple choice, part essay, this contest is open to all high school students. Test your understanding of Canadian history from 1850 to the present. Must register by deadline.

April 1, 2012

Nominate the best educator you know, someone who excels in the teaching of Canadian History or Social Studies. Self nominations are encouraged.

May 31, 2012

Nominate outstanding individuals or organizations that have helped popularize Canadian history with the written word through such means as publications, film, radio, television, theatre, voluntarism or the web.

June 2012

Help strengthen both literacy skills and Canadian historical knowledge by encouraging Canadian kids between the ages of 7–14 to create their own illustrated story or comic based on any element of Canada’s past they find of interest.
